This is the structure of Jerusalem’s historic train station. The train from Jaffa arrived here and departed from here starting in 1892. Initially, the train was the safest mode of transport to Jaffa, especially when considering that the alternative was a carriage with one or two horses. The train here witnessed the Turks, then the British, and finally us – the Israelis. However, over the years, as motorized transport developed and the travel time shortened, the train lost its prominence. The number of passengers significantly decreased to the point that it was no longer viable to operate it, and in 1998, it ceased operations. The station found a new purpose as a shopping and entertainment center.
