Introduction: The Ma’ale Adumim Theatre, also known as the Rotberg Theatre, is a cultural landmark situated on the Hebrew University campus at Mount Scopus in Jerusalem.

History: In April 1925, the Hebrew University was inaugurated on Mount Scopus in Jerusalem. To celebrate this event, a temporary wooden amphitheater was constructed by architect Fritz Kornberg. About a decade later, a permanent structure was built at the same location, which became known as the “Ma’ale Adumim Theatre,” designed by architect Benjamin Chaikin.

The Theatre: The theatre features a Roman-style stage with five gates that frame scenic views. Inscriptions in Hebrew and English read “The Hebrew University in Jerusalem,” alongside the university’s emblem. Beneath the stage are additional halls and storage rooms.

Significant Events: The Rotberg Theatre has hosted important events, including the honorary doctorate ceremony for Lt. Gen. Yitzhak Rabin, who famously delivered a speech there.

Role in Academic and Cultural Life: The theatre continues to play a vital role in the cultural and academic life of the Hebrew University and Jerusalem, serving as a platform for academic lectures and cultural events.
